Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music, Boston. Gunnar has been very active on the Icelandic jazz and popular music-scene for years, been a permanent member of Reykjavík City Big Band for over 20 years, played on a large number of recordings, worked in theaters, radio and TV and also as a music teacher at the FIH jazz-conservatory of Iceland and the Icelandic University of Arts.
Gunnar has been involved in promoting musicians rights and work environment for a long time and is chairman of the Icelandic musicians Union since 2018
